JSS Medical Research was founded in 1997 by Dr. John S. Sampalis, a clinical epidemiologist with training in microbiology, immunology and neuropsychology at McGill University. Prior that that time and since 1992, the company operated under the name CLINFO Health Research Inc., currently the consulting branch of JSS Medical Research. Dr. Sampalis is a tenured professor of Surgery and Epidemiology & Biostatistics of McGill University, the University of Montreal and University of Laval. Throughout his career he has received numerous scholarships from provincial and federal funding agencies including the Medical Research Council of Canada, the National Health Development Program and the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Quebec. With over 100 peer reviewed publications in high ranking journals and more than seven million dollars in research funding, Dr. Sampalis is recognized as one of the leading clinical epidemiologists in the world.


JSS Medical Research was initiated as a very small company with approximately 5 – 10 employees working on a handful of projects with no more than three clients. Today we have grown to more than 50 individuals with offices now open in New Jersey and Toronto and eventually, Europe. We are currently working on over 150 projects with over 20 different clients from the pharmaceutical industry, governments, universities and hospitals.

During our evolution into one of the leading Academic Contract Research Organizations we have adapted to the needs of our clients as well as the increasing rigor of regulatory agencies that approve the marketing of medications, medical devices and nutraceuticals. The high level scientific rigor and attention to detail required today from payers and patients are compatible with our philosophy of conducting clinical research for the industry that is compatible with academic standards. As a result, we have been able to combine the demands of the health care industry with the quality inherent in academic research to provide our clients solutions that are at the leading edge of scientific advancements. Consequently we have been instrumental in supporting the approval and reimbursement of life saving breast cancer diagnostic tools, immunization for serious infant viral infections, use of combination therapy for the management of hyperlipidemia and surgical treatment for obesity.
